With the great advancements in computer and electronics technology made over the last twenty years, and the rise of open source software, it is now possible to make your own art in your own home on your own terms. Technical requirements of print-, record- and movie-making are almost completely met using commodity hardware in conjunction with free software; the great barrier left is that of user-friendliness. Still, user-friendliness is not all it's cracked up to be - it will often limit the user to creating within certain forms and structures.
